A guide to Chiffon scarfs

We all love chiffons don't we?

The purpose of this post is to help Sisters understand, especially those new to hijab, what is chiffon scarf is and the various types of chiffon available.

Chiffon could be intimidating at first but once you get the hang out of it is an easy fabric to work with. You may view tutorials on Youtube as there's plenty of them! Inshallah will find some time to do a tutorial too.

Features of chiffon:
Soft, Lightweight, sheer and airy. There's slight texture to every chiffon as some has different weaving method and mixture in it. If you love draping, chances you will love chiffon. It drapes well to create an effortless flair both on the front and back, and it works incredibly well with the weight of gravity.
The fabric are usually sheer and flowing, therefore, wearing an inner ninja or innercap is recommended to help secure it in place.
Some tips:
Due to its delicate nature, I recommend you to handwash or for machine wash, you require a laundry bag.
As there's several grade & different type of chiffon mix- some tears very easily inside a washing machine, and a garment made of chiffon can rip apart while the wearer is sleeping in it.
I always like to wriggle my chiffon to determine its quality, as the low quality ones has the tendency of splitting apart.

I would also recommend baby hem sewing method on the sides of the scarfs as chiffon are delicate fabric, baby hem is more secure as compare to other sewing methods. It does also brings out that classy look to the scarf.
Different types of Chiffon available in the market (will share with you the usual ones):
Chiffon Silk - Silk is considered to be the best material for chiffon because it surpasses other materials in richness and smoothnes however is the most delicate of chiffon fabrics and it has a tendency to tear easily as compared to the rest.
Chiffon Crepe - Crepe is usually made with a plain weave. The crinkly texture of this fabric can be smooth or quite rough. The fabric is woven from all of the different type of fibers. Surface textures range from fine, flat crepes to pebbled and mossy effects.
Chiffon Georgette - Georgette is slightly thicker than normal chiffon , lightweight and dull finished like crepe fabric. Not as soft as other chiffon but its perfect for Apparels.
Chiffon Cerutti - Soft, lightweight and very flowy. There's different type of cerruti - difference in quality , thickness , texture and the smoothness.
We have always used Chiffon cerutti for our Chiffon scarfs - that includes our partner's products too.  Cerutti are easier to work with as compare to the rest and don't damage your wallet if you stock up your wardrobe with Chiffon scarfs as your staple headgear. Chiffon cerutti are comfortable and definitely a good fabric for our unpredictable weather. Perfect for informal and formal wear.
Price:
Chiffon (Plain or Pattern scarfs only) may range from $15-$25 depending on the quality.
For apparels, you may need to spend slightly more to have a good ones.

Our Partner Product:

Our most favourite basic scarfs are from Maisha & Plasma.
Both has slightly same elements in it but totally two different scarfs.
Maisha basic scarf are slightly thicker as compared to Plasma. However Plasma appear to be softer and lightweight than Maisha. Difference of 1 inch too.
Maisha scarfs measure 200 x 75cm while Plasma scarfs 200 x 74cm.
We don't ask you to choose between this two, but try both to judge for yourself.

We forgot to mention for a modest full coverage measurement has a reason to it too. 200 x 74 or 75cm are perfect for that full coverage. If you have about 180cm length or 175cm and 55 cm or 60cm width may be too short for some.

Our Own Label:Our next hit favourite are our Thara Maxi Scarf & Chic Hoodie made for our label. Both made from Chiffon Cerutti too.
Thara Maxi Scarf measure approximately 200 x 100cm.
Chic Hoodie are design to be worn instantly , creating beautiful drapes and cover modestly.
